Bar At The Box

Concept
Imagine a bar where contemporary Art and lifestyle are seamlessly merged and incorporated into its dιcor and architecture. Bar at the Box was situated in an avant-garde shophouse which won the prestigious design award in the category Mixed Development at the 6th SIA Architectural Design Awards 2001 in the historic and quaint Club Street vicinity, at 5 Gemmill Lane. It was a bar with the coolest pieces of art works.

Bar at the Box was a collaborative effort with Art Seasons Gallery and is designed to visually engage the senses. Bar at the Box was a full-fledged bar that features ever-changing contemporary Art works from prominent as well as emerging global and international artists courtesy of the Art Seasons Gallery. Bar at the Box occupied an area of 1200-sq feet.

A Multi-Faceted Bar For All Occasions
Bar at the Box was designed to function as more than just a watering hole for the late-night crowd. The bar for instance, is equipped with a sushi bar serving assorted sushi and innovative creations of "art food" for lunch as well as dinner.

Grab A Coffee
Aromatic coffees, fabulous pastries and chocolate specials were served throughout the day, making Bar at the Box the place to relax and meet friends or just read art or fashion magazines all day long.

Drink Martinis
Bar at the Box offered standard bar drinks ranging from Martinis, wines, champagnes as well as our signature herbal Martinis and cocktails plus specially created "art cocktails" - inspired by artists who have made major contributions to the world of Art.
• The Salvador martini – Vodka, peach schnapps and orange $16
• The Pablo martini – Chocolate liqueur, milk and a dusting of coco $16
• The Vincent martini – Absolute Mandarin, Cointreau & a splash of tonic $16
• The Andy martini – Green apple with mint syrup [non-alcoholic] $12
• The Roy martini – Amaretto liqueur & vodka $15
• The Freda martini – Pineapple juice, milk and grenadine [non-alcoholic] $12

Chill Out
In the early hours, Bar at the Box featured down-tempo grooves covering genres of Trip Hop, Nu Groove, Jazz & Bass, Brasil and even Classics. As the night progressed, the vibe will be Deep House, Disco House, Latin House and golden Classics - all played at conversational level.

Design

Form follows function
Bar at the Box interiors had been designed to complement its avant-garde architecture whilst still maintaining its aesthetic and function as a bar. The sleek main bar was lined with gray hues of mosaic tiles with a plain vanilla display shelf and ergonomically styled designer cream coloured bar stools. Low level lounge seats and tables provided an interesting contrast with the high ceilings and exhibited paintings.

Visually Stimulating
Bar at the box was visually stimulating with its greyish muted colour scheme contrasting with the burst of colours from the exhibited paintings and other art works from Art Seasons Gallery. In addition, specially installed gallery
spotlights helped set the mood and ambience at Bar at the Box.

Clever Use of Space
Mirrors, high ceilings, shelves and wooden foldable doors were some of the elements used to create a sense of rhythm and variation with the space. The high ceilings and glass shelves were utilized for displaying ever-changing art works. The foldable wooden doors shielded patrons from the harsh afternoon sun and also provided an interesting alfresco view as the sunsets. The alfresco area was lined with foliage to soften the streetscape. A semi-private lounge area with cream coloured sofas and raised platform was located at the rear of the bar.
